Born in 1979 in Kyoto, Takeuchi is one of Japan’s leading glass artists and was educated at the Nara College of Arts where he began his career in glass in 2000.

Employing techniques used in beadmaking, Takeuchi has expanded on the idea of building a piece of glass around a core and elevated the scale of this to create vessels. Using complex murrine he has pulled by hand, Takeuchi implements symmetry and tesselation to create unique works unlike anything created in glass.

Experimenting with light, Takeuchi draws inspiration from centuries of stained glass and blown glass artists and views his work as a contemporary fusion of the two, utilizing flameworking as the method to bring them together.
